It's time to talk about the Rules...

I have OptiFine mod as well, an I use Normal an Far distance. I've used the Zoom feature once or twice just out of curiosity an all it does is give a little better detail of what you can already see (for the most part I don't c that much of an advantage), But I use it only when I'm spectating. It doesn't allow you to see stuff that's beyond your already rendered distance. I'm not a Mod, or admin so I really can't answer your question if it's against the rules, which I highly doubt they'll even considered it as a form of hacking since Optifine's main an only purpose is to help improve your game's performance(or Fps).

Lol imo optifine zoom doesn't do much and it should be allowed. I'm sure many people use Optifine for the FPS increase and banning that mod would be plain stupid. I hardly or never use the zoom though lol.

I think its rediculious how you must be 18 or over to be a mod. There are plently of people that are mature enough to moderate the servers that are under 18.

Chad said to go ahead and send an email to his email even if you are not 18, and he will still consider it. I think he just doesn't want a bunch of 12 year olds saying, "Im mature! pick me!!" Haha

Lol.. dude you sound as if every game you join there're cheaters. I've joined so many games and have not met one cheater yet (Although i met spammers, haters and douches). Sometimes they seem like cheating (speed hacking), but its just lag. Sprinting is buggy too lol.

Yeah, I use that too.
I use the zoom usually to find my allies before we start and occasionally to see like if somebody far away has a dog, allies, gum, etc.
Thing is, if my computer could handle it, I would run Minecraft on fullscreen and not need to use the zoom anyway.

Or only when it is used excessively?

I have seen a cheater in nearly every game. Mostly the Iron doner, Conner_Rimington, which i find very, very disapointing...

Aww, you have to be over 18 to be a mod? :/. Don't you think thats a little too extreme? Maybe you could accept younger mods but it would just be less of a chance?

So saying "Joining Alliance" in the pre-game lobby counts as spam?

Oh, kinda a major question here. If you have two people and one is specing and one is playing, is it against the rules to have the spec tell the player where everyone is?

I'm hoping we have some sort of way to tell if people are actually of age and/or have the experience they say they have in the apps. I can already see a bunch of fourteen year-olds sending in apps claiming to be eighteen and saying they have years of moderating/administrating experience...

I think that's unavoidable, really. You'll have tons of people in alliances that do that sort of thing after one of them dies. One could argue that it's a part of strategy, but you could also say that it's unfair to those that don't have any sort of "eye in the sky" help. It's personal preference, I guess, as to whether or not you think it's cheating.
